A moisturizer is a cosmetic cream or lotion made with humectants or occlusive or a combination of both that prevent skin dryness. A hydrator is a cosmetic treatment product that promotes epidermal health by supporting the skin's natural ability to replenish HA.
SCE stands for stem cell extract. VitisenSCE™ technology contains a proprietary antioxidant extracted from Vitis vinifera flower stem cells. Exclusive to SkinMedica®, it is one of the key ingredients that allows HAs to support the skin's ability to replenish its own hyaluronic acid for overall skin health.
Yes, HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator is oil free and fragrance free, and is appropriate for all skin types to give patients instant smoothing gratification and address the loss of hyaluronic acid through replenishment of the skin's own HA. HA5® is considered non-comedogenic.
Milk allergy refers to a common food allergy that results in an abnormal response from the body's immune system after consuming milk. Symptoms can vary from person to person but can range from wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems. Avoidance in food is the primary treatment. It is best to determine if a patient has a true "milk allergy" versus a digestive intolerance to lactose when considering using topical cosmetic products that contain milk. The whey protein used in HA5® is derived from milk powder. Therefore a person with a history of milk or whey protein that triggers an immune response should not use this.
HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator should be applied twice daily - in the morning and evening-immediately before moisturizer in a normal regimen.
HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator can be used with any SkinMedica® product or regimen to support hydration. It should be applied immediately before moisturizer in a normal regimen.
No, HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator should not replace a moisturizer.
One pump applied twice a day will yield 8-10 weeks of product use.
Yes, HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator can be used with any SkinMedica® product or regimen to add a layer of hydration. It should be applied immediately before moisturizer in a normal regimen.

HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator does everything Hydrating Complex does and more. HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator gives patients instant smoothing gratification and supports skin health through replenishment of the skin's own HA. Hydrating complex contains 2 forms of hyaluronic acid, while HA5® combines HAs to immediately smooth the skin and provide continuous hydration. In addition, HA5® supports the skin's own ability to retain hydration with VitisenSCE™ proprietary technology, a potent blend of antioxidants and peptides. Both have been clinically tested, and HA5® was shown to continually improve skin hydration and appearance. Significant improvement in the appearance of fine lines and roughness were seen 15 minutes after application and after 8 weeks of twice-daily use.
Many factors contribute to skin aging and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Age defying skin care products tackle them in different ways.
HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator addresses the loss of HA in the skin. Its combination of 5 HAs works immediately to smooth the skin and provide hydration throughout the day on the outer most layers of the skin. In addition, HA5® supports the skin's own ability to retain hydration with VitisenSCE™ proprietary technology, a potent or "top" blend of antioxidants and peptides.
TNS Essential Serum® addresses skin rejuvenation in the deeper layers of the skin to improve the appearance of skin.
Both products include powerful antioxidants, but the blends are very different and are designed to work in different ways to support the skin. We recommend people use HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator with TNS Essential Serum® in their skin care regimen.
HA5® Rejuvenating Hydrator is non-comedogenic.
Dry skin is a skin type, while dehydration is a skin condition. In both, the skin undergoes transepidermal water loss, or evaporation of water from inside the body. With this water loss, the enzymes that normally help the skin shed cells can't function properly, resulting in a buildup of cells that makes the skin look rough and dry, contributing to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Dry skin can be genetic or a symptom of systemic disease. It is caused either by the inadequate production of oil, called sebum, or by an imbalance of fatty acids, ceramide, and cholesterol in the stratum corneum, the barrier layer of the skin. Age is also a factor in dry skin. As we get older, we experience a decline in a main hormone that triggers sebum production.
Dehydrated skin still produces sebum but is temporarily dry because of various factors, including environmental effects such as a dry climate or use of harsh detergents or products on the skin. It is caused by a temporary imbalance of fatty acids and ceramides in the skin's barrier layer, resulting in a temporary spike in transepidermal water loss.
TNS Essential Serum® is appropriate for all skin types.
TNS Essential Serum® should be applied after cleansing and toning the skin and prior to applying any other products, including sunscreens. Note: TNS Recovery Complex® is in one chamber of the TNS Essential Serum® pump, you do not need to incorporate TNS Recovery Complex® in your daily routine.

Photodamage to the skin is caused by exposure to harmful ultraviolet light. Photodamage can be acute, as in sunburn, or more commonly, chronic, due to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one’s life. Sun exposure is by far the most influential environmental factor affecting aging of the skin.
Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. Wrinkles are also caused by movement of the skin resulting in creases over time.
Age spots are also known as sun spots or solar lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight such as the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest and face. The pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.
Using sun protection and appropriate skin care products containing speciality ingredients is essential in maintaining healthy skin.
Just as your physician plays an important role in your overall health, he or she also plays a key role in helping you maintain healthy skin. With any skin care regimen it’s important to consult with your dermatologist or skin care specialist. He or she can analyze your skin care routine, tell you what’s working and determine what you can do to further enhance the health and beauty of your skin.
Always ask your physician for the appropriate products to use after a procedure since the regimen may differ depending on the type of procedure received.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit that affects at least 85% of adolescents and young adults. Distribution of acne lesions is generally limited to areas with well developed sebaceous glands including the face, back, chest and upper arms. Characteristics of acne include open comedones (blackheads), closed comedones (whiteheads), papules, pustules (inflamed pimples) and cysts.
A thin epidermis, underactive sebaceous glands, lack of moisture, skin feels tight (especially after washing), skin appears to be dull, flaking of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles are evident, skin generally has fine pores, and skin can feel itchy.
Normal to dry skin tends to be dry around the cheek, eye and lip area. This can be exacerbated by hot, dry weather in the summer months in dry climates or by indoor heating systems during the dry winter months. When skin is dry it tends to look dull.
Normal to oily skin tends to be glossy and oily to the touch, especially on the forehead, chin, nose or the "T" zone. The skin may become oily as the day goes on or during periods of stress.
